How can I find a buyer for my original oil painting?
I have an original oil painting and would like to know the steps you must take to find a buyer for it. Is it a good idea to have to be assessed first and if so, how can I find an appraiser?
If the piece is signed by the artist, check online for an art gallery representing the artist. Contact them and see if they offer evaluations. If they are local, they want to see the work in person. If they are not local, will be looking for a title, date, size, and photographs of paint, including a closeup of the signature and endorsement. Ask about resale options as they may be interested in sending the piece or an outright purchase. If you do not have the artist, call around to some galleries local art to make an appointment for the paint looked. Many renowned galleries, or may suggest, a certified appraiser can provide further guidance on the part and places that might be interested in purchasing it. Just a side note, an evaluation is not necessary but will give you a good idea of what your starting price should be. Good luck.
