Original Copper Engraved
Exunomia, elongated coins, rolled coins, broken cents, any way you named, are originally U.S. cents being compressed by two rollers (or days) with the design. What comes out is one of three or four designs (depending on the pressed penny machine) you have chosen.
Nobody knows who started the idea of exchange and press why they were created.
